Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after the Department of Justice announced steps to avoid the furlough of correctional officers at federal prisons.

“I’ve urged Congress and the Department of Justice to come together on a solution that would avoid the furlough of correctional officers at federal prisons. I’m pleased that this plan has been put in place to give our officers certainty for the remainder of the fiscal year. While this news is a step forward, much more needs to be done to adequately staff our federal prisons in the future. We must fix the sequester so we can cut our deficit in a balanced way while maintaining key priorities like adequate staffing at federal prisons.”
