WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement:
“There is widespread agreement that improvements can be made to decrease emissions and improve public health. We also need to ensure that this is done in a way that gives Pennsylvania businesses adequate time to plan and make changes to comply with the regulations. I have been working with Pennsylvania companies on these issues for some time. The revised rule did include positive changes for Pennsylvania manufacturers and businesses. However, I voted for the bipartisan amendment to give businesses more time to comply because it strikes the right balance to reduce emissions and not place an undue burden on Pennsylvania companies.
“There are currently 485,000 Pennsylvanians out of work and we have lost more than 200,000 jobs over the past ten years in the manufacturing sector alone. There are over 100 companies – many that are significant employers in struggling small towns across the state – affected by these regulations and they have raised real questions about how quickly this can be done. While I appreciate the concerns on both sides of this issue, I believe that extra time is needed to ensure that we do not put Pennsylvania’s economy and continued job creation at risk.”
