Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the passing of Eugene “Ike” Refice:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Eugene ‘Ike’ Refice as they mourn his passing. Ike Refice lived an extraordinary life. He fought in Patton’s army receiving a Silver Star, a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars for bravery during World War II. Upon coming home he found a new way to serve the public through journalism.  For a generation his photos told the story of Northeastern Pennsylvania from floods that challenged our community’s resolve to seminal events like JFK’s campaign visit in 1960. He earned his place among the selfless Americans that belong to what’s become known as ‘The Greatest Generation.’ I extend my condolences to his wife of 53 years, Kathryn, his son Paul and Paul’s wife, Babette Biesecker.”
