WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after learning of Harley-Davidson’s announcement to remain in York:
“I am very pleased that Harley-Davidson has chosen to keep operations open in York and optimistic that Harley will have a strong presence in York for years to come.
“Yesterday the union had a very difficult vote in which they made sacrifices in the interest of the company and the community. The job losses that are a result of restructuring are significant. I am disappointed that hard working men and women are going to be laid off and pledge to do anything I can on a federal level to be of assistance to them and their families.
“I commend the union leadership for their conduct throughout this process. They tackled a tough situation and saved hundreds of jobs. They deserve a great deal of credit for helping to save the York facility.
“During the upcoming restructuring, I will continue to be in communication with the union and Harley management, as I have been for the past nine months. I will urge Harley to do everything in their power to minimize the job impact in York as it moves forward with this process.
“The news from Harley today is bittersweet. The job losses to come from the restructuring are considerable, but Harley’s decision to remain in York is positive news for the community and surrounding region.”
