WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day:
“The Holocaust was one of the darkest chapters in world history. The systematic murder of more than six million Jews and countless other citizens deemed undesirable by the Nazi regime stands as a stark reminder of what can happen when evil and hatred go unchecked. Holocaust Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honor the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, and to ensure that their stories are never forgotten.
“It is also an opportunity to reaffirm our everlasting commitment to protecting the basic freedoms and dignity of all people. While intolerance, tyranny and unspeakable violence persist in our world, we have a responsibility to be vigilant and ensure that the horrors of the Holocaust never happen again.
“As communities in Pennsylvania and across the country pause to reflect on the Holocaust this week, we rededicate ourselves to the principles of justice that are our best safeguards against persecution.”
