WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement on the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan:
“My prayers and condolences are with the people of Japan in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake and tsunami. Natural disasters such as these show the true inter-connectedness of our world as their effects can be felt by the United States and countries in South America.
“The U.S. has taken strong initial steps to mobilize our regional military assets to support the provision of humanitarian assistance to those in need as we continue to monitor the impact on Hawaii and the West Coast. Japan is a longstanding and close ally, and we should commit to provide support during the recovery effort.”
