Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey released a statement following the press conference held by Special Counsel Robert Mueller:
"Our nation owes Robert Mueller a substantial debt of gratitude for his work as Special Counsel and his lifetime of service to our nation. Today, Special Counsel Mueller made clear that ‘[t]he Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion.’ Special Counsel Mueller also said, ‘As set forth in the report, after the investigation, if we had confidence that the president did not clearly commit a crime, we would have said so.’ This means that Congress has substantial work to do. First, Congress must come together and stop Russian interference in the 2020 election at all costs. Republicans in Congress have done little on the question of Russian interference because they fear upsetting President Trump. It’s time for them to stand up and protect our Democracy. Congress also needs to hold President Trump accountable for his abuse of presidential authority. Holding President Trump accountable will require additional hearings, testimony and potentially legislation to ensure the Russians are stopped and what occurred in 2016 never happens again."
