Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), a member of the National Security Working Group and former Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released a statement on the European Union’s new labeling guidelines:

“I am disappointed in the EU’s recent announcement of new guidelines for labelling the origin of products, which could contribute to an economic boycott of Israel. I have urged European leaders to reject this discriminatory labelling practice and will continue to press the Administration to make this a priority in economic talks with our European partners.  The best path to peace between Israel and the Palestinians is through direct talks between the parties, and we must continue to oppose efforts to pressure Israel in other ways.”
