Washington, DC— Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the International Olympic Committee’s inclusion of wrestling for the short list of events for the 2020 Olympic Games:

“Wrestling has a long and rich tradition in Pennsylvania and I’m pleased the Olympic Committee has taken steps that bring this sport closer to being a part of the 2020 Olympics. I worked with colleagues in the Senate to cosponsor a resolution that encourages the inclusion of wrestling as an Olympic sport. I’m hopeful that wrestling will be included in the 2020 Olympic Games.”

Senator Casey previously co-sponsored a bipartisan Senate resolution to oppose the removal of wrestling from the Summer Olympic games. Details on the resolution can be found here.
