Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is releasing the following statement on the one year anniversary of the Tree of Life shooting in Pittsburgh:

"One year ago today, we witnessed the most deadly act of violence against the Jewish community in American history.  As three congregations—Tree of Life, Dor Hadash and New Light—were observing Shabbat morning services at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, a mass shooting claimed the lives of eleven innocent Pennsylvanians and injured six more, including four law enforcement officers.

Today, we stand with Pittsburgh and Jewish communities across Pennsylvania and the United States not only to remember the victims who lost their lives at Tree of Life, but to remind ourselves that there is no place for hate in our Nation or anywhere else in the world.  We are stronger than hate.

As we remember those who tragically lost their lives, I am praying for the families and loved ones of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger."
