Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), a member of the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP), released a statement following an announcement that President Obama issued an executive order extending paid sick leave to federal workers.
“This executive order will have a substantial impact on thousands of American workers. Every day, we see American families who literally cannot afford to get sick or to take care of a loved one. This executive order will make it so federal contractors should not have to choose between their health and their economic security. While paid sick leave is an important family issue, it is also an economic and public health issue. When employees come into work sick, productivity is decreased and illness spreads to others. Ultimately, when a sick employee can’t afford to take a sick day it hurts businesses’ bottom line. I will continue to fight for improvements in the American workplace.”
