WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement on Rosh Hashanah:
“Rosh Hashanah marks the start of the Jewish High Holidays and New Year. It is an opportunity to gather with family and friends, reflect on the events of the past year, and recommit to living by the core values of the Jewish faith. It is also a time for hope that the new year will bring renewed peace to our lives and our loved ones.
“During these holy days, we are reminded of the importance of living the values of fairness, tolerance and charity. Many Pennsylvanians continue to struggle to make ends meet, and I hope that we can find it within ourselves to offer a helping hand to those in need in our communities. The celebration of Rosh Hashanah reminds us that working together and helping others can be among the most beneficial and rewarding expressions of faith.
“Rosh Hashanah also brings hope that the new year will see greater prosperity and peace for people around the world. For our friend and ally Israel, I wish that the new year brings renewed promise for peace in a volatile region. Our two countries must continue to work together to encourage stability and security in the Middle East.
“I am proud to represent Pennsylvania’s vibrant Jewish community, and I offer my best wishes to all who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah. May we all strive to live out the values honored on this important occasion. L’shanah tovah.”
