Washington, DC – Today U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s decision not to seek reelection:
"Senator Harry Reid has spent most of his life serving the people of Nevada and our nation. From a small home in Searchlight to our nation's capital, Harry Reid has always fought for those without power. He has placed a priority on health care and nutrition assistance for young children and protections for domestic violence victims. Senator Reid has spent a lifetime on the front lines of the fight to ensure workers can earn a decent wage, organize without fear of retribution and work in a safe environment. As Majority Leader, Senator Reid helped guide our nation through difficult times like the Great Recession. His legislative acumen and grit helped the lay the foundation for our nation's economic recovery and the passage of the Affordable Care Act. While we commend his life of public service, we know that Senator Reid's work is not done. In the next two years he will continue to fight and win battles on behalf of working families and the vulnerable. I have no doubt that this former boxer has saved his best rounds for his last two years in the Senate. We wish Harry and Landra well as they begin a new chapter in their lives."
