Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released a statement regarding the situation in Syria:
“The Administration has indicated that it’s considering a strike against Syria in response to its chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians. Nations that use chemical weapons against civilians must be held accountable. If the Administration intends to go forward then it must seek an authorization for the use of military force from Congress first.
Unlike the March 2017 chemical attack, the Administration has been in office for fifteen months - more than enough time to put forth a comprehensive plan for the situation in Syria. Further, if the President intends to take action then he should address the American people beforehand to explain in detail why the strikes are necessary and he should outline a comprehensive strategy on Syria. He should seek an authorization similar to the one that President Obama sought in 2013 for a situation involving Syria.”
