Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement to mark the 65th anniversary of the modern state of Israel’s founding:
“On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the modern State of Israel, I want to express my warmest congratulations to the people of Israel and to commemorate and reaffirm the unbreakable bond between our two nations. The American and Israeli people share a special relationship, forged by a common commitment to democracy, peace and security. Our countries have stood together in defense of these values and I am deeply committed to strengthening this relationship.
I was fortunate to visit Israel recently where I met with President Peres and Prime Minister Netanyahu to discuss the security issues facing our countries, including Iran’s nuclear program and unrest throughout the Middle East. I am a proud co-sponsor of S. 462, the United States- Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013, which would designate Israel as a “Major Strategic Partner” of the United States, reflecting the importance of this enduring bilateral relationship. This 65th anniversary of the founding of the modern state of Israel affords us the opportunity to reaffirm the bond between the U.S. and Israel has never been stronger and will never be broken. “
