Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the death of American journalist James Foley:
“ISIS’s murder of James Foley, an American journalist captured about two years ago in Syria, was an act of cowardly brutality. ISIS is a terrorist organization that has clearly demonstrated its intent to kill Americans and that poses a threat to the stability of the region and our homeland security. ISIS has also shown it will fight anyone who rejects its extremist views and abhorrent tactics, regardless of religion, sect, ethnicity, or nationality.
My thoughts and prayers are with James’ friends and family at this difficult time. Today, we should also honor the many journalists and media workers the world over who have given their life or liberty in their efforts to shine a light on the darkest corners of the world.
Last month, the Senate unanimously passed my bipartisan resolution, which affirmed the centrality of press freedom and the important work of journalists like James. The resolution also urges foreign governments to bring justice to the perpetrators of attacks against journalists.”
