Washington DC- Today U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the Pentagon’s Fiscal Year 2012 Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military:
“I am deeply outraged that today’s report released by the Pentagon indicates that sexual assault continues to be so prevalent today in our military. We must do more to prevent this terrible crime from happening, to prosecute those responsible, and to provide services for the survivors. Sexual assault in the military not only fosters distrust among servicemembers and presents a serious threat to readiness and morale, but it also erodes the credibility of our armed forces.
I am committed to supporting our servicemembers and I am deeply grateful for the sacrifice and contributions they make for our national security. We must continue to make sure they are fully supported, during and after their service. This includes providing every resource available to the survivors of sexual assault. We must continue to build upon the steps the Department of Defense has taken to reduce the number of sexual assaults, to stop this crime from happening in the military, and to support the survivors.”
