Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released a statement about his vote on the Strengthening America's Security in the Middle East Act of 2019:

"I support S.1 because  it contains important provisions to strengthen our security relationship with Israel, to support defense cooperation with Jordan, to sanction those spreading unrest in Syria, and to prevent unwarranted boycotts of and divestment from our nation’s ally, Israel. However, the Trump shutdown must end and that the Senate should not conduct business as usual until the government is reopened. At this time, I will oppose moving forward on this legislation until the government is reopened. Leader McConnell should immediately schedule a vote on the Republican appropriations bills passed by the Democratic-controlled House to fund eight of the nine departments that are shut down and the President should commit to signing this legislation to reopen the government."
