Philadelphia, PA - U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is releasing the following statement as the USS Murtha is commissioned today.
“The USS John P. Murtha will advance our nation’s national security interests and honor Congressman Murtha for his lifetime of service. Congressman Murtha was a decorated Marine who served his country during the Korean War and volunteered for combat in Vietnam. He never forgot about our veterans, our troops or their families. He was a strong fighter for Johnstown, Cambria County and all of the 12th District. He was also my friend and a friend of the Casey family. The commissioning of this ship is a fitting tribute to a man who committed his life to service and focused intensively on our nation’s security and the wellbeing of those who serve.”
