Casey Has Consistently Pressed for Accountability / Casey Is Cosponsor of Bipartisan Bill to Change the Way Infectious Disease Outbreaks Are Reported by VA

Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released a statement following an announcement by the VA that it was moving to remove the Pittsburgh VA’s Medical Center Director following the Legionnaires’ outbreak that occurred in 2012.

“I’m pleased that Secretary McDonald has taken steps to hold officials at the VA Pittsburgh Health System accountable for what occurred during the Legionnaires’ outbreak in 2012. What happened to our veterans in Pittsburgh was a betrayal- plain and simple. This announcement is an important step, but certainly not the end of what needs to be done to bring justice to the impacted families and full accountability for those responsible for the way the outbreak was handled. I’ll continue to press for passage of legislation that will improve the way infectious disease outbreaks are reported and will continue to closely monitor the discipline process that the VA has undertaken.”
