WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released the following statement on Yom Kippur:
“Yom Kippur is the holiest and most solemn of all Jewish holidays. It acknowledges human imperfection and is an opportunity to atone for sins committed during the year. It also is a time for forgiveness, and for renewing commitments to ourselves and to one another.
“As Jews around the world observe Yom Kippur, we should all recommit to living in accordance with our highest principles. Throughout Pennsylvania, people are suffering in the aftermath of devastating flooding and in the midst of unforgiving economic conditions. We should pledge to support those in need now and throughout the year. We should work together to find solutions to our common problems, so that we may all live in peace and prosperity.
“I am proud to represent the Jewish community in Pennsylvania, and I look forward to continue engaging with you throughout the year. G’mar Chatimah Tovah.”
