Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) submitted a public comment responding to the EPA’s proposal to weaken methane pollution controls:
“Under the Trump Administration, the EPA has continued to abandon its mission to protect human health and the environment. In its own regulatory analysis of the proposed methane emissions rule, the EPA acknowledged that it is ‘likely to adversely affect health’ and to ‘degrade air quality.’ This latest attack on commonsense methane controls is yet another example of this Administration prioritizing special interests at the expense of the health and safety of our communities and families. Several oil and gas companies have also spoken out in support of retaining the existing standards, recognizing the importance of retaining these critical protections. I strongly urge EPA Administrator Wheeler to reevaluate this proposed rollback and to withdraw the rule immediately.”
