Company In Process of Deciding Where to Build New Polypropylene Facility that Would Bring Jobs, Growth to Region / In Letter to Company’s CEO Casey Highlights Advantages of Region
Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has urged Braskem America to locate its new manufacturing facility in Marcus Hook. The company is currently deciding where to build a new polypropylene facility that would bring jobs and economic growth, if Southeastern Pennsylvania is selected. In a letter to the company’s CEO, Fernando Musa, Casey highlighted the advantages of locating in Marcus Hook, including the region’s highly skilled workforce and the region’s transportation infrastructure.
Casey wrote, “Southeastern Pennsylvania is home to a diverse and highly-skilled workforce that is committed to ensuring our Commonwealth remains a leader in the manufacturing sector. Marcus Hook is in a location that gives it strong multi-modal access to the Northeastern corridor, and is situated along the Delaware River, a waterway that is poised for significant growth as the project to deepen its main channel nears its end.”

Dear Mr. Musa:
Recent press reports indicate that Braskem is in the process of deciding where to build a new polypropylene manufacturing facility and suggest that Marcus Hook in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, is one of the locations that is being considered for this plant. I write to strongly encourage Braskem to locate this new facility in Pennsylvania.
Southeastern Pennsylvania is home to a diverse and highly-skilled workforce that is committed to ensuring our Commonwealth remains a leader in the manufacturing sector. Marcus Hook is in a location that gives it strong multi-modal access to the Northeastern corridor, and is situated along the Delaware River, a waterway that is poised for significant growth as the project to deepen its main channel nears its end.
I am pleased that Braskem in recent years has made significant investments in its operation in Marcus Hook, and continues to expand its presence in Pennsylvania. I understand that Braskem’s existing facility in Marcus Hook has a strong performance record since being acquired in 2010 and is situated in a location that is well-positioned to take advantage of Pennsylvania’s natural resources. Locating a new polypropylene facility in Marcus Hook would build on the success that Braskem has already achieved in Pennsylvania in recent years and would be mutually beneficial for Braskem, for Pennsylvania workers, and for the Pennsylvania economy.
