Bureau of Prisons Currently Considering Reviewing Contract for Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility, Could Decide to Relocate Services Facility Provides to Another State / Moving Facility Would Affect Jobs, Economy in Region; Renewal Would Add Additional Jobs to Facility / MVCF Employs 260 Residents Has $20M Economic Impact
Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has urged the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to renew the contract of the Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility (MVCF) and to keep the low security correctional institution located in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania as opposed to moving it to another state. Currently BOP is considering renewing the contract for this facility. Failing to renew the contract could cause the services the facility provides to move to another state. Such a move would negatively affect the 260 residents who work at the facility as well as the region’s economy, which annually receives a $20 million boost from MVCF. A contract renewal would add additional jobs to the facility.
“I’m urging BOP to renew this contract. Doing so will recognize MVCF’s highly skilled workforce while increasing jobs in the region,” Senator Casey said. “It’s important to maintain the positive economic impact that this facility has on our region instead of moving these benefits to another state. I’m hopeful that BOP will come to a decision that protects the jobs of 260 residents and allows the staff at MVCF to continue their work.”
