WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today urged GE Transportation to reconsider the planned move of its headquarters and about 50 positions from Erie to Chicago.
“Erie’s skilled workforce and competitive location have accommodated GE Transportation for years, so the move of its global headquarters should be strongly reconsidered,” said Senator Casey. “Erie’s manufacturing base is essential to continued job growth and I will continue to fight for every job in the region.”
In a letter to GE Transportation President and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli, Senator Casey cited the company’s rich history in Erie and the potential for the move to impact the region and deprive GE of a dedicated and skilled support staff in urging the company to reconsider the move.

Lorenzo Simonelli
President and CEO
GE Transportation
In light of the recent announcement, I urge you to reconsider the transfer of GE Transportation’s executive team to Chicago.
GE Transportation has a long and rich history in Erie which is a great source of pride for the community. Relocating the headquarters to Chicago will reduce GE’s long-standing corporate presence in northwest Pennsylvania.
Further, moving the corporate offices outside of Pennsylvania will impact the region and deprive GE of a dedicated and skilled support staff. In light of these considerations, I would ask you to reconsider.
While it is my understanding that GE manufacturing will not be impacted by this decision, I would also urge you to underscore your long-term commitment to the loyal workforce in northwest Pennsylvania by outlining your plans for future growth in the region.
I remain committed to supporting GE Transportation's presence in northwest Pennsylvania and stand ready to offer assistance.
Sincerely,
Robert P. Casey
United State Senate
