Cinram Recently Bought By Arizona Private Equity Firm - Workers Concerned 500 Jobs Could Be At Stake
In Letter to New Owners, Senator Cites Plant’s History of Excellent Work, Strength of Region’s Workforce In Push for Jobs
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has sent a letter to Jahm Najafi, head of new Cinram owner Najafi Companies, urging him to fully utilize Cinram’s 500 member workforce in Olyphant as his company transitions to ownership.
In his letter to Mr. Najafi, Casey cited the region’s first class workforce and the productivity of the company’s 500 workers in making the case to keep jobs.
“Cinram’s 500 workers have an excellent track record of productivity and achieving results that should be an asset to any owner,” Senator Casey said. “I’m hopeful that as Najafi Companies transitions to an ownership stake in Cinram that they will realize the first class nature of our region’s workforce and keep jobs at the plant.”
For years Cinram and its employees have been a leader in the DVD and CD manufacturing industry. It’s currently one of the largest providers of supply chain solutions for entertainment and retail companies. The company employs 500 Pennsylvanians in Olyphant, but a transition to new ownership could put those jobs at risk. In a letter to the new owner, Senator Casey made the case for keeping the plant’s 500 workers on the job.

Mr. Jahm Najafi
Chief Executive Officer
Najafi Companies
Dear Mr. Najafi:
I am writing in regard to Najafi Companies’ recently announced acquisition of Cinram International Inc, which operates Cinram Manufacturing LLC in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. I look forward to your new presence in Pennsylvania as you take ownership of Cinram operations.
As I am sure you are aware, Cinram’s plant in Olyphant is a very important employer in North East Pennsylvania, and that job losses in recent years have had a significant impact on the community. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to invest in the Olyphant plant so that it may again grow as an employer in this region.
For over 40 years Cinram and its employees have been a leader in the DVD and CD manufacturing industry. The Olyphant plant has developed a strong reputation for production and efficiency which would be useful to any company. I am confident that Cinram’s skilled 500 member workforce will be useful to you as you transition to ownership.
If there is any way that I can be of assistance as you take over operations in Olyphant, please contact me.
Thank you for your investment in Pennsylvania.
Sincerely,
Robert P. Casey, Jr.
United States Senator
