WASHINGTON, DC-Prior to the Senate vote on the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act (S. 2123) to expand collective bargaining rights for police officers, firefighters and EMTs, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) spoke on the Senate floor to urge the Senate to move forward with the legislation.
“I and a lot of other Americans want to make sure that those who are putting their lives on the line every day, whether they are firefighters or police officers or other emergency personnel, that they have the peace of mind to know that they are protected under law and that they also have the ability to negotiate for and watch out for their own wages and benefits and working conditions,” said Senator Casey. “That's what this legislation seeks to do, to bring states that don't currently have this in place, this labor relations authority in place, to make sure that we're doing that in every state in the Union.”
The Senate will vote today on a motion that would allow for the consideration of the bill. The legislation already passed the House last fall.
