Direct Flights From Bradford to Pittsburgh Will Boost Emerging Shale Industry
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is pushing for service from Bradford Regional Airport to Pittsburgh International Airport in a letter to Silver Airlines’ CEO. Currently, flights from Bradford Regional Airport only connect to Cleveland, forcing visitors to Bradford from east coast locations to pass over Bradford before doubling back. Adding a direct flight from Bradford to Pittsburgh will help the region take better advantage of the economic activity generated by natural gas.
“A connection to Pittsburgh would give McKean County residents a more convenient option to travel to southwestern Pennsylvania,” said Senator Casey. “With the continued expansion of the natural gas industry in western Pennsylvania, I believe that adding a flight to Pittsburgh from Bradford Regional will spur continued economic growth and job creation in the region.”
Bradford Regional Airport has seen a decline in enplanements in recent years and this is the result of the elimination of a route that provided direct service to the Washington D.C. area. Creating a connecting flight to Pittsburgh would allow residents in McKean County to once again travel to Washington to D.C., through a connecting flight in Pittsburgh, Senator Casey wrote.
Senator Casey’s letters to Silver Airlines CEO are below:

Dear Mr. Richardson:
I write to urge you to consider adding service from Pittsburgh International Airport to Bradford Regional Airport. Currently, flights from Bradford Regional Airport only connect to Cleveland which forces visitors to Bradford from east coast locations to pass over Bradford before doubling back. A connection to Pittsburgh would give McKean County residents a more convenient option to travel to southwestern Pennsylvania. With the continued expansion of the natural gas industry in western Pennsylvania, I believe that adding a flight to Pittsburgh from Bradford Regional will spur continued economic growth and job creation in the region.
Bradford Regional Airport has seen a decline in enplanements in recent years and this is the result of the elimination of a route that provided direct service to the Washington D.C. area. Creating a connecting flight to Pittsburgh would allow residents in McKean County to once again travel to Washington to D.C., through a connecting flight in Pittsburgh. I believe this would allow the airport to see an increase of enplanements and provide a boost the regional economy.
I stand ready to assist Silver Airlines with adding a connecting flight from Pittsburgh to Bradford Regional Airport. Thank you for your continued efforts in providing reliable service and affordable airfares.
Sincerely,
Robert P. Casey, Jr.
United States Senator
