CHEYNEY, PA – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today visited Cheyney University of Pennsylvania to meet with faculty and students and tour construction projects on campus.
“It was a pleasure to witness the exciting progress and development happening at Cheyney University,” Senator Casey said. “The students I met today inspire confidence in the leadership of our younger generation, and I look forward to working with Cheyney as they continue the expansion and renovations of this historic institution.”
“We are deeply honored that U.S. Senator Casey visited Cheyney University and toured our historic quadrangle, engaged our students in the Keystone Honors Academy and toured our Aquaponics Research and Education Laboratory,” said Cheyney University President Michelle Howard-Vital. “His support of Cheyney University’s mission is greatly appreciated.”
Senator Casey was joined by Pennsylvania State Representative Greg Vitali and received an overview of construction projects on campus with President Howard-Vital. Cheyney University has received $300,000 in federal aid to restore and preserve the historic Melrose Cottage, the oldest building on campus.
Senator Casey also met with students from Cheyney’s Keystone Honors Academy and toured the Aquaculture Research and Education Laboratory, which studies ways to develop sustainable aquaculture production in areas where farmland is scarce.
