Highlights the Need for Programs that Prepare PA Workers to Reap the Benefits of the Shale Industry
PLEASANT GAP, PA – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today met with constituents enrolled in job training programs and business leaders who work with the Marcellus Shale Industry. He also toured the facility at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI).
“Marcellus Shale provides a tremendous opportunity for Pennsylvanians if we do it right and training our workers so that they can reap the economic benefits of shale development is critical. These students are developing the technical skills necessary to help them compete in today’s economy. We need to prepare Pennsylvanians so they can secure jobs in the regional workforce and these programs do just that.”
Earlier this year, Senator Casey reintroduced the Marcellus Shale On-the-Job Training Act to authorize grants to strengthen the On-the-Job Training programs to help ensure that natural gas drilling jobs go to Pennsylvanians and not workers from out-of-state.
The Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science & Technology was established in 1969 as the Centre County Vocational-Technical School. In November 1998, the school's name was changed to Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI) to reflect its competencies in scientific and technical education for high school students and the adult community. Today, CPI offers more than 18 secondary programs, over 60 in-house adult & continuing education programs, and more than 350 online programs.
