Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), in collaboration with Governor Tom Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), has successfully worked to secure a $35.1 million grant for PennDOT under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program. PennDOT will use this funding to replace and improve the outdated I-99/I-80 Exit 161 interchange in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. The updates will ensure greater road safety and improve reliability to encourage economic growth in the region.
“I’m pleased to see the U.S. Department of Transportation investing in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Casey. “These much needed funds will be used to make transportation in central Pennsylvania safer and help modernize the roads which can lead to greater economic activity in the region. I was proud to advocate on behalf of PennDOT in their efforts to secure this grant and will continue to make improving infrastructure in Pennsylvania a top priority.”

The INFRA program provides dedicated, discretionary funding for projects that address critical issues facing our nation’s highways and bridges. Among other efforts, including personal outreach to U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, Casey penned a letter to the U.S. DOT highlighting the importance of this project.
