Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) issued a statement following the release of the World Meeting of Families Hunger and Homelessness Committee report, A Time for Mercy and Justice: Pope Francis and the Pursuit of the Common Good in the United States:
“This report lays out the foundation for a ‘just and compassionate society’; one that we should continually strive for as a nation. I am thankful for the work that Archbishop Chaput and Sister Mary Scullion did to bring the important ideas in this report forward. The report highlights important issues that directly affect the American people, and that our nation must face and conquer. Every day, millions of Americans are without affordable housing, adequate nutrition and lack the opportunity to ensure their families can have their basic needs met. Pope Francis’ visit to the United States in September is an opportunity to continue this important discussion on how to improve the lives of American citizens who suffer from poverty and homelessness. We have an obligation to create bipartisan, commonsense solutions that help all of our nation’s citizens achieve a measure of basic dignity.”
