Washington, D.C. – Today, First Focus Campaign for Children announced U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) as a 2015 Champion for Children. First Focus, a national bipartisan children’s advocacy organization, grants this award to the top 100 Members of Congress who work to represent children in legislation. This is the 5th year Senator Casey has earned the distinction.
“I am grateful to receive this honor from First Focus, a strong advocate for the needs of American children and families. Investing in our children is critical to their future success and in laying down a strong foundation for long term economic growth in our nation,” Senator Casey said. “It has been proven time and time again that if children learn more now, they will earn more later. I make policy and budgetary decisions with the interests of children in mind every day, and I will continue to fight for our county’s next generation of leaders.”
As the Ranking Member of the Senate Subcommittee on Children and Families, Senator Casey is at the forefront of children’s advocacy in Congress. He has introduced a universal pre-k bill to the Senate floor every year, and continually works to close the Head Start funding gap, and has pushed for more support for Child Care so that every child has access to high quality early education. Recently, the Senate passed the Protecting Our Infants Act, bipartisan legislation introduced by Casey and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that seeks to combat prenatal opioid abuse and infants suffering from opioid withdrawal. The 2015 Champion for Children award recognizes Senator Casey’s continued advocacy for American children.
