Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of Senate’s Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety, released the following statement after the Obama Administration suspended trade privileges with Bangladesh following a series of factory collapses.
“The Administration made the right call in suspending trade privileges with Bangladesh. April’s horrific factory collapse was part of a trend of lax labor standards in the country that puts workers at risk and perpetuates an uneven playing field across the globe. It’s impossible for American workers to compete if companies are allowed to engage in a race to the bottom on worker safety. The Administration should establish a roadmap with clear benchmarks before Bangladesh can once again receive U.S. trade privileges.”
