Agreement Similar To Casey Bill to Increase Opioid Funding, Senator Has Been Vocal Advocate for CHCs
Washington, D.C. – Today, Senate Leadership reached a bipartisan agreement to fund the government and address a number of vitally important issues, including committing funding to combat the nation’s ongoing opioid epidemic and protecting community health centers (CHCs). U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on this agreement:
“I have pushed for a funding agreement that invests in our infrastructure, funds efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and funds community health centers (CHCs). Although there is vital work to do on additional issues, this bipartisan agreement will help Pennsylvania families. Following their tax giveaway to the super-rich and big corporations, Republicans in Congress wanted to pass a funding agreement that short-changed middle class priorities, like infrastructure, health care and education.
I fought for and secured substantial investments in rural broadband and commitments for funding for the opioid epidemic. These commitments are similar to my legislation, the Combating the Opioid Epidemic Act. This investment isn’t the end of our work, but an important down payment on confronting this crisis and getting dollars to local communities.
Next week, the Senate will begin a debate on protections for the Dreamers, who were brought to this country as children. This Administration created the Dreamers crisis and Congress needs to step up and provide basic protection for the dreamers in a bipartisan bill that keeps our government’s promise to these young people who have contributed so much to American life.”
