Investment Estimated to Create 5,800 Jobs, Support Development in Allegheny and Beaver Counties

Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the Economic Development Administration’s (EDA) Economic Development Assistance Program has approved a $1.8 million investment for the Findlay Township Waterline Project. By providing a potable water supply to the area, this project will support ongoing development in the Clinton Industrial Park and new construction efforts within the Pittsburgh International Airport corridor.

“I’m pleased that the EDA has decided to assist the Findlay Township Waterline Project,” Senator Casey said. “This funding is estimated to create 5,800 jobs and attract private investment to support further development in Allegheny County and neighboring Beaver County. The infrastructure projects stemming from these investments will have a lasting impact on the region’s economy and help modernize the airport corridor.”

In November, Senator Casey wrote a letter urging the EDA to support the application sent in by the Findlay Township and Allegheny County Airport Authority.

The full text of Senator Casey’s letter can be seen below:

Dear Mr. Taylor:

It is my understanding that Findlay Township and the Allegheny County Airport Authority have submitted an application to the Economic Development Administration’s Economic Development Assistance Program. The purpose of this letter is to urge you to give full and fair consideration to this proposal.

I have been informed that Findlay Township Municipal Authority (FTMA) will use this funding for the Findlay Township Waterline Project. I am further informed that this project will provide a potable water supply necessary to support ongoing development in the Clinton Industrial Park and new construction of commercial and light industrial developments located within the Pittsburgh International Airport corridor. I understand that the project has garnered support from local and state officials, as well as the EDA-approved regional economic development district, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC). As it appears, this proposal, along with additional infrastructure upgrades, will provide a strategic investment that will foster job creation and attract private investment to support development, not only in Allegheny County, but neighboring Beaver County as well.

Thank you in advance for the consideration of my views. Please include this letter in the official record of the application. Consistent with all applicable laws, rule and regulations, I also respectfully request that you keep me informed of the status of this grant application. Finally, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me or my staff.

Sincerely,

Robert P. Casey, Jr.

United States Senator
