WASHINGTON, DC- Last night the Senate passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) to recognize and support the goals and ideals of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. He introduced the resolution in an effort to promote awareness of sexual violence and encourage solutions to decrease the incidence of sexual assaults.

“By introducing this resolution, I stand in solidarity with those whose lives have been affected by abhorrent acts of sexual violence,” said Senator Casey. “I commend the many survivors of sexual assaults who have dedicated their lives to combating these crimes and helping other victims recover from these life altering events.”

The resolution recognizes that a sexual assault occurs every two and a half minutes in the United States and encourages all community organizations, businesses and colleges and universities to promote strategies to reduce the rate of sexual crimes.

The resolution also applauds public safety, law enforcement and health professionals for increasing the rate of sexual assault cases that end in prosecution and incarceration of offenders.
