Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative to receive half a million in federal funding to invest in technology, workforce training from the American Rescue Plan passed earlier this year
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is releasing a statement applauding the award of $500,000 to the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative for their placement as a finalist in the Build Back Better Regional Challenge:
“I applaud the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative for their achievement in receiving this competitive award. Their efforts to strengthen and expand the region’s technology workforce are exactly what we need as Pennsylvanians look to recover from the pandemic. I will continue to advocate for resources to come to Southwestern Pennsylvania that will contribute to its standing as a leader in technology development. As we build back better, investing in our Nation’s economic infrastructure is absolutely critical,” said Senator Casey.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative aims to promote economic development in 11 urban and rural counties in and around the City of Pittsburgh by growing the region’s robotics and artificial intelligence sectors. The Collaborative will create family-sustaining jobs and foster economic opportunity across the region by supporting prospective employers and employees with investments in workforce training and commercialization while simultaneously addressing barriers to work.
As a finalist in the Build Back Better Regional Challenge, the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative is awarded $500,000 to further develop its proposed projects and strengthen their regional coalitions in advance of submitting a Phase 2 application.
