Stimulus funds will be used to acquire public safety equipment to protect residents of rural communities

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey announced the Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded Huntingdon Ambulance Authority an $100,000 loan as well as a $20,000 grant for the acquisition of an ambulance, made possible through the Recovery Act of 2009.

USDA’s Rural Development’s Community Facilities program aims to provide essential public safety infrastructure to rural families.  In doing so, funding for this project will help with the acquisition of a new ambulance.

“I am pleased to see stimulus funds being used to ensure the safety and well-being of Huntingdon,” said Senator Specter.  “It is essential that our rural communities have access to properly working safety equipment.”

“The funding going to rural communities for public safety projects in Pennsylvania is another example of the way Recovery Act is positively impacting the Commonwealth,” said Senator Casey. “I am pleased to see that the Huntingdon Ambulance Authority will be receiving funds for a new ambulance to better serve the people of Huntingdon.”

This award is part of a larger announcement from USDA for $33 million for 26 states which help finance community facilities for public use in rural areas.  These funds are available to public bodies, non-profit organizations and federally recognized Indian tribes.
