Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Bob Casey (D-PA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will allocate $68,305,855 in federal funding for crucial health and human services programs that help to provide care for children and prevent disease. The funds are enabled by the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
“I am pleased that Pennsylvania’s families will benefit from the stimulus program,” said Senator Specter. “This funding will help ensure that families have access to proper child care and the immunizations to keep our children healthy.”
“I am happy that these recovery funds are being allocated so quickly to important health care programs in Pennsylvania,” Senator Casey said. “These funds will help Pennsylvania’s working families provide care and vaccinations for their children.”
Funding for Pennsylvania includes:
$8,159,088 for the Immunization Grant Program to provide funding for immunization operations and infrastructure necessary to implement a comprehensive immunization program at the federal, state and local levels.
$60,146,767 for the Child Care Development Fund to support child care for working families. Federal funds will be used by states to provide vouchers to families for child care or to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers or invest in quality improvements. Funds will allow states to support child care services for more families whose children require care while they are working, seeking employment or receiving job training or education.
