Funding for Chester and Bedford County fire stations will enable vital upgrades and modifications
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will award two Pennsylvania fire companies federal funding for construction, renovation and modification of their fire stations.
Malvern Fire Company in Chester County and Six Mile Run Area Volunteer Fire Company in Bedford County were awarded the funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“I am pleased to see stimulus funding being used to help support the upkeep of Pennsylvania’s fire stations,” Senator Specter said. “Improvements to these fire stations will promote the efficacy of fire services all around. It is paramount to the safety of our state that our firefighters have up-to-date facilities.”
“Our fire companies are called on day after day to protect America’s citizens, the least we can do is to make sure they are well equipped and have up to date facilities,” said Senator Casey. “This money will provide great assistance to fire companies in Pennsylvania.”
Funding has been awarded to the following fire companies in Pennsylvania:
• $2,001,710 for the Six Mile Run Area Volunteer Fire Company in Bedford County to provide upgrades for an overall sound structural integrity and to meet new building codes, OSHA requirements, NFPA requirements, and other environmental concerns such as structural expansion to provide emergency shelter in accordance with National Preparedness Guidelines.
• $1,076,845 for the Malvern Fire Company in Chester County to renovate and expand upon approximately 7,900 square feet of the fire station. The expansion will include construction of bunk rooms, bath and shower facilities, modifications of apparatus bays, Fire/EMS operational offices, operational storage space, computer work areas, communication space, and a small training area.
